The Salvation Army - Samaritan Women and Children Services (SWACS) provides support programs and accommodation options to promote the safety of women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence and / or complex trauma in childhood. We offer opportunities for women and their children to explore their options to transition into independent housing while allowing them time and a safe space to work through their trauma. Case management provided includes but is not limited to immigration and visa support, education and training, program delivery and community connection. SWACS works to re-establish choice, self-worth and confidence in a trauma informed environment, empowering people to move forward in their lives and make positive choices.

THE ROLE

The Child and Family Practitioner is responsible for providing to the family support team with a child focused education alongside a trauma informed response to children and families. The purpose of the position is to educate and grow team knowledge and ensure best practice care is in place to provide social, educational and emotional development support that ensures that the voice of children in our service is heard and responded to, to ensure that we keep them safe from harm and at the centre of our practice. Working in collaboration with the wider case management team, volunteer coordinator and program manager to prevent adverse childhood experiences and to reduce the risk of child protection intervention for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander families. The role will endeavour to help children to reach their full potential by developing skills for future outcomes to ensure supportive family and community connections are in place.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Social Work, Early childhood or Education degrees or equivalent industry experience
  • Implementation and evaluation of programs and autonomy in rolling out delivery of these programs to teams
  • Training and education regarding the developmental stage of children and young people, working with children/young people in a therapeutic setting
  • Knowledge of attachment theory and family systems theory within complex needs families.
  • Knowledge of impacts of trauma and adverse childhood experiences in particular relating to domestic and family abuse
  • Previous experience of working within teams and/or community development role will be highly regarded
  • Highly regarded but not mandatory - background in or demonstrated understanding of working with vulnerable families
  • Community Development / Social Work, education or youth equivalent experience
  • Registered training diploma would be preferred but not essential
  • Working with Children Check
  • Mandatory National Police Check
  • Full NSW Drivers Licence

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a full-time position, 38 hours per week ongoing.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 3 (Crisis).
