The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Childcare Coordinator to provide support the under 5 age group and their family by coordinating and providing a quality childcare program that is relevant for both Salvation Army consumers and for people within the wider community.

You will successfully

  • Provide supervision to the childcare assistant and any reliever or students that may also do their placement in the childcare room
  • Follow DEECD guidelines to ensure appropriate child/staff ratios are maintained
  • Work with children with individual needs as appropriate
  • Create and provide activities for children that are age appropriate which engage and educate the children according to their stage of development
  • Recognise potential indicators of trauma associated with developmental status of children and identifies attachment issues in children and responds appropriately
  • Supervise childcare assistants, casual relievers and students to deliver best practice services
  • Ensure administration and record keeping including collection of fees and ensuring payments are collected and maintained
  • Ensure service planning, policy development, implementation and administration responsibility ensuring that childcare policy and procedure manuals are up to date

This is a part time position, 24 hours per week for 6 months (during school terms only). Possibility of extension of contract for a further 6 months dependent on funding. Reporting to the Child & Youth Services Team Leader, this position is located at Salvation Army Homelessness Ballarat.

You will have

  • Diploma of Children's Services.
  • Substantial human service management skills
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the childcare education and care service field and experience in managing is preferred
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of all licensing and legislation relating to the provision of Children's Services
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and commitment to the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics ​
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • A current and valid VIC
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
