The Salvation Army Crisis Services is a network of local and state-wide programs based in St Kilda. We seek to make a positive difference in the lives of people experiencing crisis, homelessness and violence. We are guided by social justice principles and work with those most in need.

THE ROLE

National Chaplaincy Service is currently seeking a values-driven person to work in a challenging environment providing support to clients, families and staff. Key responsibility areas include:

  • Provide spiritual and pastoral care, regardless of belief, which encourages people to explore their spirituality and move forward on their personal faith journey
  • Presenting client needs and risks are identified and responded to through appropriate referrals and advocacy
  • Supporting and encouraging service users, in collaboration with program staff, to identify supportive and meaningful groups within the community
  • Productive links are established and maintained with managers, staff, clients, family, significant others, and other Salvation Army mission expressions.
  • Promoting awareness of the Chaplaincy role

This position is located at the St Kilda Crisis Centre however will service programs accessed within Homelessness Victoria Metro, Family Violence, AOD, and Youth services streams in St Kilda and local suburbs.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a full-time position, 38 hours per week ongoing. This is an Award Free position.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • Diploma of Chaplaincy to have been completed or to be studied at earliest opportunity after appointment in role.
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and/or theological studies desirable.
  • Experience in a chaplaincy environment, preferably with the Social Sector desirable.
  • Demonstrated resilience and ability to work in a challenging and changing environment
  • Knowledge of the physical, emotional, psychological and behavioural impact of trauma and abuse
  • Demonstrates understanding of the theoretical knowledge and theological underpinning for ministry
  • Respectful of spiritual beliefs and practices of others
  • Display Christian love and compassion for others
  • Capacity to build positive relationships with all
  • Respect for difference in all its forms; being non-judgmental, value the human dignity of every person.
  • Enrolled and active Soldier of the Salvation Army - preferred
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence is essential
