About the role

We are looking for an experienced AOD Case Worker to join our small friendly team based in Penrith. Working within a recovery-orientated practice framework you will be required to provide assessment, referral, group work and intensive case management to people with alcohol and other drug issues within the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

Pathways Penrith is an out-client alcohol and other drug support service, targeted at:

  • Drug and alcohol education
  • Relapse prevention and management
  • Strategies around harm reduction

We are looking for a Case Worker to provide the following services:

  • Assessment and referral
  • Therapeutic and psycho-educational groups
  • One to one case management
  • Advocacy into inpatient detoxification and rehabilitation facilities

The role is part-time (4 days per week, Tuesday-Friday) for a max-term of 6 months. Continuation after that period will depend on budget funding.

The role will be filled as early as possible once a suitable candidate is found.

The following are essential requirements of the role:

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army
  • Minimum of Diploma level qualifications in AOD, Community Services, or a relevant discipline
  • Experience working within, and knowledge of, the AOD, primary health care, and criminal justice sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour, violence and problems associated with substance abuse and psychiatric conditions
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience in the implementation of case management for disadvantaged and/or complex needs participants
  • Experience working with people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Experience working in collaboration with other organisations to develop and tailor programs to meet participants' needs
  • An understanding of the issues faced by people experiencing AOD problems and mental health conditions
