The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

Sal's by the lake is located in the middle of the excellent Speers Point Park. The cafe centrally located between the play areas and the lake and provide the best of both worlds.

Sal's a 100% NOT FOR PROFIT CAFE. All proceeds from the cafe's operations are channeled back into the community via The Salvation Army.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a skilled all rounder Support Cook that can hold both service areas when required. The main responsibility would be to support our chef in all operations.

As the cook during slow times you will work alone and cover BOH & FOH. You will co-ordinate the kitchen operations and prepare food and beverage for Sal's by the lake. The Second Cook , as part of the role, will be responsible for supporting the first cooks in our three locations. Ordering and facilitating the preparation and serving of food and beverage.

Occasionally you will be required to work in other locations.

HOURS

This is a casual position.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • An understanding, empathy and appreciation of the values and ethos of The Salvation Army with demonstrated ability to promote the values and ethos of The Salvation Army
  • Ability to work with young people and facilitate on the job training
  • Cert III in commercial cookery or Cert III in hospitality
  • Experience in working in a high-volume café or restaurant environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver food to customers in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated experience in menu development, food preparation and service
  • Ability to manage and purchase food stocks, kitchen supplies and equipment
  • Ability to manage supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and minimum wastage in line with budget
  • High level of knowledge of workplace and legislated hygiene requirements (HACCP)
  • Excellent communication and staff supervision skills
  • WHS - knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation.
  • "Can Do" dynamic attitude
  • Planning, organisational, problem solving and evaluation skills
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills

REQUIREMENTS

  • Current driver's license
  • Current senior first aid certificate (desirable)
  • Valid Working with Children Check
