Flagstaff and The Open Door residential facilities are part of The Salvation Army Homelessness Stream and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. The two sites provide 101 beds in total for men experiencing homelessness with complex needs.

The After Hours Support Worker participates in the day to day operation of the facility, including providing individualised support to residents, assisting with the development of personal skills, maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and residents as well as completing administrative duties. In this position, you will be required to complete reports, update records and case notes as well as fulfill other compliance requirements. You will work collaboratively with the Community of Support and Case Management team to provide a high standard of care to residents across both sites.

Our ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, mental health, community services or a related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work sensitively with people of diverse cultures, abilities, ages, sexualities and gender identities
  • Ability to respond to unpredictable situations and behaviours using de-escalation techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and take safe and appropriate action for critical incidents
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma informed care, person centred and strengths based approach
  • Prior experience in residential facilities is preferred, but not essential

The shift times are:

  • 11pm - 8:30am (active overnight)
  • Saturday, Sunday, Monday night x1 position
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday night x2 positions
