About the role

In 2022 the Trust for Nature Board made a commitment for Trust for Nature to facilitate a transfer of ownership of Neds Corner Station to its Traditional Owners—the First People of the Millewa-Mallee Aboriginal Corporation (FPMMAC). This decision represents a major contribution to self-determination for Aboriginal Victorians, and the largest transfer of private land in Victoria to Traditional Owners.

The Project Manager for the Neds Corner Transition project is a critical position with the responsibility of leading the transfer of Neds Corner to FPMMAC. The position will work in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to deliver key project milestones.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Project implementation and risk management, including planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting
  • Provide expert guidance on navigating complex land transfer matters, including legal matters
  • Advising on project legal risks, land justice issues and property transfer processes
  • Briefing and liaising with legal firms to gain external legal expertise and advice
  • Coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring the project remains within scope, schedule, and defined budgets, in collaboration with staff from various functional departments
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including FPMMA

This is a 24 month full-time fixed term contract position located in Melbourne offering a base salary of $104,922 – $115,936 p.a plus super.

About you

We are searching for someone with both Project Manager expertise and a background in land transfer matters who possesses (eligible to obtain) a Victorian Legal Practicing Certificate that is not subject to supervised practice requirements. The successful applicant will also bring:

  • Experience in independent management of complex or sensitive legal matters;
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations
  • An understanding of land transfer and / or experience in property transactions
  • Project management expertise including reporting on key milestone achievement, demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail;
  • Knowledge and practical experience in property law, preferable outside of a law firm environment
  • Familiarity with the environmental or nature conservation sector and will be highly advantageous
