About the role

As the Seed Bank Manager your key duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Source, clean, process and store seed for TFL’s seed bank
  • Keep excellent records, enter data and undertake an annual stocktake
  • Manage seed collection permits
  • Provide training on seed collection and storage practices
  • Manage volunteers and a seed collectors network
  • Support initiatives to improve seed supply and provenance strategies
  • Provide advice on seed availability, species selection, and germination
  • Provide service to customers, volunteers and the general public

Please note intrastate travel, occasional remote and out of hours work will be required.

As the ideal candidate, you will possess the following:

The successful applicant will have excellent native plant identification skills, prior experience collecting and processing seed, knowledge of contemporary policy, codes and legislation determining best practice seed sourcing, excellent record keeping skills, strong time management and interpersonal skills. The role works within the Tree Scheme and Nursery Team and with volunteers in a team environment.

The successful candidate must hold a valid class C driver’s license. Due to the range of physical duties required for this position, such as bending and stretching, a contract will be conditional on the applicant passing a pre-employment medical examination.
