Organisational Background

Transgender Victoria (TGV) was founded in the late 1990s to achieve justice, equity, and quality health and community service provision for trans and gender diverse (TGD) people, their partners, families, and friends.

Since forming, a key part of TGV’s work has been to educate professionals and allies about how to best support, and provide services to, TGD people. More recently, TGV’s training expanded to include both a Federally funded program for aged care services, and LGBTIQA+. In addition to the aged care services, our training clients range from community services, different levels of government, corporations and both compulsory and post-compulsory education.

The training sessions are delivered on demand, meaning that there are no guaranteed hours. The training can vary both in length and topics covered. Prior to the pandemic, the training was delivered on site, which has involved travelling into regional and remote Victoria. In such instances, Educators might be required to stay overnight, at the expense of TGV. Since the pandemic, we have been delivering our training online, and onsite when restrictions and client COVID Safe Plan permit.

Key Responsibilities and expectations of the role

The main part of this role is to co-facilitate training sessions. This usually draws on the modules that have been developed by TGV, as well as the LGBTI+ Aged Care sessions that were developed by a consortium overseen by National LGBTIQ Health Australia.

The training is designed to maximise audience participation and learning opportunities by creating and holding a space that is non-confrontational, friendly, and safe. It is critical to respond to any participant’s challenging opinions or ideas in a respectful way while emphasising the overall importance of supporting the messages in the training modules in order to provide safer and more inclusive environments, services and workplaces.

You will be expected to respond to emails and other communications within a timely manner, which will include both internal invitations for training and external contact with clients.

You may also be invited to undertake other relevant tasks from time to time, which will include, taking part in the reviewing of training materials and administrative tasks.
