Transcend Australia Ltd (Transcend) is a not-for-profit charity who delivers rights-based services and advocacy that celebrate gender diversity, affirm autonomy, and enhance the protective factors for strong families and young people’s health and wellbeing.

One of the primary aims of Transcend is to support families, parents, and carers to navigate the health system for transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) children, young people and their families. In addition, we offer support to families in securing fair, respectful and inclusive outcomes for their children across of range of social and institutional settings that intersect with their lives.

About the role of Community Engagement Lead

Reporting to the Director, Communications and Engagement of Transcend Australia, the Community Engagement Lead will have a pivotal role in supporting functions related to:

  • Development and delivery of training and education activities, including fee for service activities as part of the business development strategy.

  • Development and delivery of community education and engagement activities, including education webinars, forums and workshops.

  • Fostering and maintaining stakeholder, community and organisational partnerships and engagement to drive impact, sustainability and success in delivering our strategic goals.

  • Work with the Director, Communications and Engagement to coordinate social media for Transcend to mobilise public support for social and policy change and to drive awareness of programs and services.

  • Coordinate and organise community events, including family social activities and other Transcend events.

  • Coordinate and support volunteers, including volunteer recruitment and allocation of volunteers to social connection and support programs.

  • Coordinate the development of Transcend’s evidence based resources and tools to be developed in close collaboration with the Operations and Family Services team to ensure compelling content development and its use in support of organisational activities.

  • Coordinate Transcend’s community advocacy programs and activities, including the national parent advocacy program and national youth advocacy program.

You will have a background, ideally from the health and public policy or community development sector, that demonstrates your strong understanding of mental health and primary care health services, how they integrate and how cross agency referrals are managed.

You will have some understanding of the healthcare needs of TGDNB young people and their families and the policy environment in which we work.

You are experienced with communications or public relations management, project cycles, stakeholder management, community development, evaluation frameworks and reporting.

You will be driven to bring your skills and experience together to facilitate the development and/or implementation of a range of programs and initiatives that contribute to Transcend's work towards improving the health outcomes for TGDNB young people and building stronger families.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Developing, maintaining and fostering effective relationships with organisational stakeholders, partners and funders to ensure successful delivery of Transcend’s strategic plan, funded programs and activities.
  • Development and delivery of community education and engagement activities, including education webinars, forums, workshops and other events as per our Community Engagement Framework.
  • Support the implementation of business growth strategies to drive revenue and financial growth, including fee for service training, consultancy services, merchandising and other income streams.
  • Support the Director, Communications and Engagement to implement and optimise the communications plan, including coordination of social media, website, newsletters and other communications and undertke analysis and reporting for continuous improvement.
  • Support the development of a community-based advocacy program for parents and trans, gender diverse and non-binary young people and maintain key coordination of these programs.
  • Set up and coordinate community events, including family social activities and Transcend Australia events.
  • Implement the organisation’s Stakeholder, Community and Partnerships strategy to drive impact, sustainability and success in delivering our strategic goals.
  • Support the recruitment and coordination of volunteers into relevant programs that fall within social events and advocacy programs.
  • Participate in the development of Transcend’s evidence based resources and tools in close collaboration with the Operations and Family Services team to ensure compelling content development and its use in support of organisational activities.
  • Design and develop education and training materials, manage training bookings and requests and delivery of training.
  • Maintain responsibility for website maintenance and updating.
  • Provide support with organisational activity tracking and monitoring for the purpose of program reporting and to communicate organisational impact.
  • Participate in and facilitate relevant meetings internally and externally.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as required, including administration support to the Chief Executive Officer.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

To be successful in this role you will have:-  

  • Tertiary qualification, industry certification, or equivalent experience in Project Management, Healthcare, Policy, Communications, Community Development or similar field.

  • Operational experience in the delivery of multifaceted programs to disadvantaged people, with the ability to leverage strengths across different programs and disciplines and to identify and action opportunities for program development.

  • Excellent project management skills, with demonstrated initiative and ability to manage issues and champion new projects to enhance partnerships and outcomes.

  • Demonstrated experience developing written communication resources and materials.

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating social media and communications.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training and education programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and managing events and programs for diverse audiences and communities.

  • High level verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with public speaking and presentations.

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice.

  • An understanding of the needs and priorities of TGDNB young people and their families.

  • Demonstrated experience in working in outcome focussed projects with evaluation frameworks.

DESIRABLE

  • Lived experience as a TGDNB person or as a parent/carer of a TGDNB young person or child is highly desired.

  • Previous experience working with TGDNB communities and/or families of TGDNB people.

  • Experience with programs such as Hubspot and Wordpress and experience with social media platforms.
