  • Hours: Part-time - 15 hours per week, days to be negotiated. The Community House operates 41 weeks of the year, 6 weeks term break during the year is flexi hours
  • Classification: Schedule 3B, Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry (SCHADS) Award 2016, SACS Level 4, 1st year $39.26 hourly rate
  • Conditions of Employment: Neighbourhood Houses & Adult Community Education Centres Collective Agreement 2016
  • Contract: 6 months contract with potential for ongoing

Organisational Context

Torquay Community House Inc (TCH) is located on Wadawurrung country in Torquay.

The house is a vibrant, not-for-profit organisation governed by a community-based Board of Management and is one of 25 Neighbourhood Houses in the Barwon Region. Since 1988, Torquay Community House has provided a welcoming and inclusive environment where community members can participate in a range of programs, initiatives, and activities. As a Neighbourhood House we bring people together to connect, learn and contribute to their local community through social, educational, recreational and support activities, using a unique community development approach.

Torquay Community House is funded under the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) Neighbourhood House Program and operates under the Victorian Government’s Neighbourhood House Co-ordination (NHCP) Guidelines. Torquay Community House is a member of Neighbourhood Houses Victoria (NHVic) and a member of Neighbourhood Houses Barwon (NH Barwon).

Torquay Community House Relationships/Networks

  • The Torquay Community House is funded by the DFFH.
  • Affiliated associations range from the local Surf coast Network of Neighbourhood Houses, Neighbourhood House Barwon, Neighbourhood Houses Victoria, and Surf Coast Shire Council. The Torquay Community House networks with and maintains partnerships with a wide range of public and not for profit community organisations, both locally and in the Geelong region.

Position Objective

The Activities and Marketing Coordinator will work under the direction of the TCH Coordinator to ensure that the Community House identifies, develops, and delivers diverse and appealing programs, activities and events that respond to the needs and interests of the local community. It is expected the Activities and Marketing Coordinator will exercise initiative, expertise and passion to ensure programs are developed and delivered effectively and efficiently within a community development framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop and deliver innovative, diverse and appealing programs and activities that respond to the needs and interests of the local community.
  • Ensure programs are developed, delivered and evaluated effectively and efficiently within the community development framework.
  • Liaise with prospective tutors on matters pertaining to the development and delivery of new programs both face to face and online.
  • Oversee current programs, maintain relationships with current tutors and group leaders to enhance the delivery of programs.
  • Coordinate regular participant feedback and evaluation of programs and collate data for planning and review.
  • Assist with the provision of data for reporting to DHHS.
  • Meet all compliance requirements
  • Work effectively as part of a small team.
  • Assist as required with general administration including reception, helping with course enquiries and enrolments.
  • Assist the Manager with hosting activities and events at the Torquay Community House.
  • Other duties as directed by Coordinator.

Marketing and Publicity

  • Create and maintain a strategic marketing schedule to plan and coordinate advertising and event opportunities.
  • Oversee the content and production of all marketing and promotional materials including social media platforms, term course guides, flyers, and any materials.

Key Selection Criteria Essential:

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, research, implement and evaluate programs and activities, preferably in a community education environment
  • Proven marketing experience
  • Ability to prioritise and manage competing demands in a timely manner
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work cohesively within a team
  • Comprehensive IT skills in Microsoft Office suite

Highly Desirable:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the not for profit and community sector
  • Demonstrated experience to coordinate and work well alongside fellow staff, tutors and volunteers
  • Experience in client/customer facing role

Conditions of Employment

  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Neighbourhood House and Adult Community Education Centres Collective Agreement NHACE 2016.
  • 15 hrs per week – SCHADS Award Level Schedule 3B, SACS Level 4, 1st year $39.26 hourly rate – permanent part time position
  • All entitlements as per the SCHADS Award
  • A current Australian Driver’s License
  • Current Working with Children and Victorian Police Checks
  • TCH will contribute 10.5% as an employer contribution to a superannuation fund of your choice
  • Annual Leave is calculated pro-rata
  • Some out of hours work may be required
