Oceans Project Coordinator - The Nature Conservancy - Multiple locations

Talent Nation

The company

The Nature Conservancy is the largest freshwater and marine conservation organisation globally. Having first commenced operations in Australia in 2002, TNC Australia has grown significantly and now conducts projects in all mainland Australian states and territories. Their work focuses on three main biogeographical zones – the Outback (including work with many Indigenous Traditional Owner groups supporting their efforts to manage their country for its cultural and conservation values); the Great Southern Seascapes (including their extensive shellfish reef building program across the bays and estuaries of Southern Australia), and the Southern Murray-Darling Basin (including innovative water funds and property management).

The Oceans Team is expanding to deliver a national restoration program and seeking 4 Oceans Project Coordinators based in Albany (WA), Adelaide (SA), Melbourne (VIC) and Perth (WA).

The role

As an Oceans Project Coordinator, you will assist in the delivery of TNC’s ocean conservation programs. You will lead project management and planning, community and stakeholder engagement, project governance and support monitoring, evaluation and reporting for local restoration projects. You may also support the delivery of other conservation projects across Australia as required. Additionally, you will:

  • Support the design, construction, management and monitoring of large-scale, in-water marine restoration projects
  • Manage a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors
  • Manage the relationship between the organisation and the delivery partners for the specific projects
  • Gain cooperation from outside parties to accomplish project goals
  • Organise community presentations, workshops and forums
  • Perform risk management, issue resolution, and conflict management, and collaboratively solve complex problems
  • Develop a public profile within the regions you are working

About you

The Oceans Team is going from strength to strength and they are looking for your spark that will differentiate you from other candidates. You value teamwork and are passionate about leading change and delivering projects that result in tangible and lasting outcomes for people and nature. As a key member of the Oceans Team, you will have experience engaging with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders with different backgrounds and perspectives.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Worked collaboratively as either a team member or leader executing multifaceted projects that deliver on-ground outcomes
  • A solid background in project management and community engagement and enjoy solving complex problems in a team environment
  • Energy, patience and persistence
  • Experience with communication via written, spoken and graphical means
  • Eligibility to work in Australia and a valid driving licence.

The rewards

There are not many people that can put their hand up and say they have played an active part in bringing an ecosystem back from the brink of extinction. TNC value the collective and collaborative efforts that are so essential to their success and subscribe to ideal of One Conservancy; working together in local places and across borders to achieve their global mission.

You will join a motivated, collaborative, happy team that is genuinely excited by the scale of the program that they are working on; and the outcomes they can deliver. You will struggle to find greater job satisfaction anywhere if you are genuinely motivated by ocean conservation outcomes.

TNC and Talent Nation recognise that conservation is best advanced by the leadership and contributions of people of widely diverse backgrounds, experiences and identities. We encourage applications from people of all cultures, abilities, sex and genders.
