The Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC), is a collaboration of Australian and New Zealand investors focusing on the impact that climate change has on the financial value of investments. IGCC represents investors with total funds under management of over $2 trillion in Australia and New Zealand and $20 trillion around the world. IGCC members cover over 7.5 million people in Australia and New Zealand.

The IGCC aims to encourage government policies and investment practices that address the risks and opportunities of climate change, for the ultimate benefit of superannuants and unit holders. The IGCC’s mission is to “catalyse investor action on climate change to avoid dangerous global warming, responsibly manage long term risks and drive sustainable returns for investors and the beneficiaries they represent”.

The role

This newly created role of Director - Investor Initiatives, will manage and advance IGCC’s investor practice work on climate change risks. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will support IGCC’s members to better integrate climate risks and opportunities into their investment process and decision-making, including overseeing IGCC’s working groups and climate adaptation programs.

The successful applicant will also coordinate IGCC’s work on global and domestic investor practice programs including; The Investor Agenda, Paris Aligned Investment Initiative, Net Zero Asset Managers initiative, Climate League 2030 and the Coalition for Climate Resilient Investment.

This role is a supervisory position, managing up to three staff members, including overseeing the Investor Engagement and Investor Practice Program Manager.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and managing priority investor projects to support delivery of the IGCC Three Year Strategy and the relevant strategic plans and funding commitments of international programs.
  • Engaging with stakeholders on research and project development as appropriate, including investors, industry bodies and NGOs.
  • Coordinating and supporting IGCC’s participation in The Investor Agenda, Paris Aligned Investment Initiative and Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative.
  • Acting as the IGCC representative on international working groups and executing the roll out plan in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Providing strategic advice, managing budgets, engaging with funders and other Director-level responsibilities as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.

About you

With a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in economics or finance, you will possess a strong background in financial services with experience in responsible investment, ideally with a focus on climate matters. You are known for your ability to apply an investor perspective when engaging with senior Fund Managers.

You are adept at working in a small environment where people's opinions are valued and listened to. You thrive on open communication, transparency and are energised by a dynamic work environment.

In addition, you will possess the following;

  • Ability to engage with and convey frameworks to highly knowledgeable Investment and Fund Managers
  • Experience in supporting engagement/investor projects
  • Deep knowledge of finance and investment industry
  • Strong organisational, project management, writing, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in supporting and coordinating the delivery of outcomes from international collaborations across multiple time zones, markets and cultures
