The company

Our client is a leading climate change communications organisation. They provide authoritative, expert advice to the Australian public and key decision-makers on climate change and solutions based on the most up-to-date science available.

The role

Leading a small, high impact team, the Campaign Director oversees the development and execution of campaigns in a number of critical areas including clean jobs and economic transition, gas, extreme weather and international action. This includes engagement with stakeholders at all levels of government, industry and the not-for-profit sector to advance campaign objectives.

The Campaign Director is also part of the Management Team and is a key contributor to the development and implementation of the organisational strategy.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development and design of the campaign strategy.
  • Oversee the implementation of integrated campaign strategies that draw on the work of each team. This includes oversight of Campaign Steering Committees.
  • Identify, engage and coordinate external campaign partners, building strong collaborations between diverse organisations, finding common ground, negotiating shared positions and resolving strategic differences.
  • In consultation with the CEO, lead engagement with state and federal governments (political offices and departments), regulators, industry and the community to achieve campaign objectives.
  • Act as media spokesperson (as required).
  • Lead the high-performing Campaigns Team to achieve their objectives, including staff supervision, mentoring and up-skilling, workflow coordination and budget management.

About you

You will have a deep understanding of the Australian political landscape and the know-how to help others navigate government processes and networks. You like to think on your feet and are flexible with your approach. You will know how to bring the best out of your staff, effectively collaborate across teams, and get things done.

In addition, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Government Affairs, Public Policy or similar. Candidates with no degree but equivalent professional experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated experience in campaigns, policy development, government affairs or similar.
  • Enviable networks, with demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain strong working relationships with individuals in government, industry and the not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong written communication skills and demonstrated capability to think outside the box when it comes to campaign activity – matching new ideas quickly to the best audiences and channels.
