5 Pillars Capital is a private family office which promotes change and positive outcomes for society and the natural environment through the deployment of capital (traditional equity, catalytic and philanthropic) into investment opportunities through their investment management business, Kilara Capital.

Kilara Capital is a deal origination and investment management business focused on the food industry supply chain, natural resource management and the development of energy services for these sectors in Australia. Impact investment verticals they focus on include sustainable aquaculture, renewable energy infrastructure, energy tech, green buildings and cities, regenerative agriculture & horticulture, and sustainable food production.

Kilara’s vision is to create and invest in deeply sustainable businesses and projects across these sectors, all of which assist to drive the transition to a zero-carbon economy and create financial, environmental, and social returns for its investor base.

The Role

As a private family office, they are a small team doing amazing things in an intimate working environment, where respect and commitment to the work and each other, is essential.

As the CFO for 5 Pillars and Kilara Capital, your time will be split between both businesses where your work will pivot from some of the more basic functions to complex investment fund accounting and everything in between.

This role will suit someone from a professional services background who has a deep understanding of investment funds, an interest in ethical investment, likes to be both hands on and strategic, and with a flair for entrepreneurial thinking.

High level accountabilities include:

Kilara Capital

• Fund Administration and back-office set-up
• Investor liaison and reporting
• Fund Accounting and Compliance
• Managing Fund audit process
• Assistance with investee company valuations
• Management of Fund distributions

5 Pillars Capital

• Monthly bank reconciliations
• Tax compliance which includes the completion of yearly Tax Returns and Quarterly IAS
• Managing accounting function for various entities inclusive of completion of financial reports
• Completion of application forms and necessary documents required for new investments
• Manage and work with external tax advisors to complete yearly tax returns and liaise on tax related matters
• Monitor and manage bank accounts

About you

You will have come from a corporate services sector background that requires a high degree of polish, professionalism, and organisational skills. A role offering a dynamic, fast paced work environment, with complexity, varied tasks and working with highly successful business leaders will suit you best.

Ownership over your role will be a key driver as all team members of this organisation roll up their sleeves and get into the detail to do what needs to be done. Continuous improvement will also be a motivator along with being a highly proactive CFO who will bring suggestions and improvements to the table, in support of ongoing business success.

Some skills we’d love you to have include:

• 10 years plus experience as a CFO in a professional services environment
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, or commerce
• Experience working directly with senior executives and complex negotiations
• Extensive knowledge of investment management, highly preferable to have experience across ethical investment portfolio’s
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• A high level of organisational and time management skills, with proven ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and prioritise tasks
