350 Movement Support Team Members (Voluntary) - Australia-wide

350.org Australia

We are building a grassroots movement to stand up to the fossil fuel industry, and support a just transition from coal, oil and gas to a renewable energy future for all. The movement is rising from the ground up all over the world and is uniting to create the solutions that will create a better future for all. 350.org Australia is a not-for-profit project helping build this movement from our corner of the globe.

We know that the climate crisis is about power — and not just the kind of power that runs our cars and keeps the lights on. We believe that the only way we’ll see meaningful action on climate change is if we can counter the power of big fossil fuel companies with the power of people taking collective action. That’s why we are building a grassroots movement that is big enough to shift power away from the big polluters who are driving the crisis, to the people on the frontlines building the solutions. We design a central strategy that anyone can be involved in and adapt to their communities.

Currently we have a network of 15 active groups across Australia who are leading and carrying out campaigns to stop any public money for a gas-fired recovery.

THE MOVEMENT SUPPORT TEAM (MST)

The MST exists to grow, support and build leadership within our network of volunteers and to create the scale of people power and skills that we need to stand up to the fossil fuel industry.

Through helping identify and coaching grassroots leaders, welcoming new volunteers to our network, rolling out activist training and campaign tactics we create a powerful and resilient grassroots movement that will help us achieve our shared goals.

OUR GOAL:
Activists across Australia will work together to shift the big 4 banks away from oil and gas investments, making it harder for big gas projects like Scarborough, Beetaloo and Barossa to secure Australian finance.

HOW WE WILL ACHIEVE THIS: By building up communities and activists that can lead coordinated campaigns to put brand, staff and customer pressure on the banks and pressuring them to update their oil and gas lending policies.

ROLES description:

We’re looking for 20-25 volunteer activists to join these teams and help build a movement for climate justice! MST members lead on various tasks including welcoming and inducting new activists, action and mobilisation support, training and events. Min 6-months commitment (fortnightly meetings and on average 1-2 hours per week).
