WHO WE ARE

The House of Welcome (HoW) is committed to serve people seeking asylum who are living in the community. Clients come to HoW through word of mouth, by referral or through client networks.

Based in Granville, HoW currently provides medium term accommodation and housing for approximately 95 asylum seekers in 19 properties. In addition to housing, staff and volunteers offer a variety of support services such as casework, financial assistance, foodbank, referrals, advocacy and community development programs for numerous clients across Sydney.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Caseworker role requires a dynamic and self-motivated individual. The Caseworker is responsible for managing an ongoing client caseload, performing detailed intake assessments, identifying key needs and risks and conducting internal and external referrals.

The Caseworker reports directly to the Casework Manager and is a critical member of the House of Welcome and St Francis Social Services Team.

The position requires a high level of collaboration, a commitment to teamwork and to advocate for and uphold the rights of people seeking asylum and refugees living in the community.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Proven ability to provide quality casework support including the development and management of comprehensive case plans to identify client goals, strengths, needs and supports required to live independently in the community.
  • Proven ability to complete comprehensive risk assessments which identify key needs and risks impacting both the clients and the organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, liaise, advocate and network with internal and external stakeholders to identify service gaps and manage complex cases
  • Demonstrated experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds who are experiencing grief, loss and trauma and experience ongoing safety risks
  • Ability to use initiative to problem solve and implement strategies to support both clients and the team
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the team and build a positive work culture
  • Ability to meet competing work priorities
