About Basic Rights Queensland

Basic Rights Queensland (BRQ) provides information, advice, advocacy and legal services in relation to social security, disability discrimination and women’s workplace issues. While advice is provided to all, casework, including representation, is provided only to vulnerable clients who are unable to advocate for themselves. BRQ undertakes community legal education activities to assist people to understand their rights and legal processes and to provide community workers with the knowledge they need to support their clients through them. BRQ participates in law reform activities, using the knowledge gained from the experiences of our clients to promote fairer laws and policies.

About the role

The DV WorkAware Project Worker will provide administrative and project support to The Services Union, BRQ and DVWorkAware trainers to ensure the success of the program.

Main Duties

  • Organising DV WorkAware Training events:
    • In collaboration with the DV WorkAware team the project worker will map potential sector partners and follow up requests for training
    • Organise online and face to face training as required
    • Deliver 1 hr training sessions to small groups as required
    • Prepare resources for other trainers
    • Book venues, travel and accommodation as required
  • Undertake general administrative duties including:
    • Maintaining and updating DV WorkAware Resources
    • Liaising with web managers, content creators and graphic designers as required to ensure high quality resources
    • Scanning and document management
    • Data entry
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Sharing information about work activities and working co-operatively with all staff and stakeholders
    • Working to contribute to the overall development of DV WorkAware
    • Participating as a member of the BRQ staff team including participating in team meetings
    • Adhering to BRQ values, policies and procedures, working consistent with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011
    • Undertaking other duties as directed

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated understanding of Domestic and Family Violence in Australia
  2. High level administrative skills including word processing, digital file management, computer skills (Microsoft Office applications including use of Excel)
  3. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  4. Good project management skills
  5. Ability to work effectively and unsupervised in a team environment and remotely

Remuneration and conditions of employment

Wages and Conditions: Staff are employed under the Basic Rights Queensland Enterprise Agreement 2019 (based on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010) with the above-award conditions including:

  • Two weeks closure over the Christmas/New Year period in addition to the four weeks annual leave
  • Salary Packaging
  • Six weeks paid Parental Leave
  • Overtime will not normally be paid, however Time Off In Lieu provisions apply
