Be a part of a growing team - we are looking for a passionate and dedicated midwife to join our supportive and inclusive, Baggarrook Caseload Midwifery.

Baggarook Caseload Midwifery is a specialised midwifery led unit at the Women’s hospital proudly providing care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Baggarook Caseload midwives work in a team of four dedicated midwives. The caseload midwife must value family centred care and work closely with her team, and value teamwork with the wider community both within the women's and external Aboriginal Health Services.

A full time Baggarrook Caseload Midwife will care for 40 of women per year, as well as providing back-up and support for three team mates. This position involves a large degree of autonomy and has periods of work that are scheduled and unscheduled and requires a commitment to being on-call to provide care. Midwifery care may be provided in antenatal clinic, during labour and birth, postnatal care at home and administrative tasks.

Your contribution

Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Manage assigned caseload of women in an on call capacity
  • Resepct the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of women and significant others in the provision of culturally sensitive midwifery care.
  • Working closely within a cohesive caseload group as part of Maternity Services team.
  • Work closely with women, babies and families who identify as Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Complete assessment of the health status of caseload women by interview, observation.
  • Provide evidence based care.
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement, document and evaluate midwifery and neonatal care in partnership with the women and other health care professionals.
  • Provide health education for women, families, and other family supports.

About you

To be successful within this role you will need to have:

  • Relevant 2 years clinical experience in all areas of the midwifery continuum; including antenatal, labour triage and care, birth, postnatal and postnatal care in the home.
  • A demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and the issues affecting the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and newborns.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health.
  • A commitment to evidence-based outcomes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of midwifery case in a continuity of carer model, of which focuses on the woman and her family.
  • Able to work effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Working within a diverse cultural environment.

Please be aware that in line with the Health Minister's Covid-19 Mandatory Vaccination Order, all workers at the Women's regardless of role, will be required to be fully vaccinated (3 doses) for COVID-19 or hold an acceptable medical exemption.

Influenza Vaccination Requirement

In line with the Health Services Amendment (Mandatory Vaccination of Healthcare Workers) Act 2020, some health care workers are now required to have their flu vaccination to work in health care. Evidence of vaccination is required.

As this role fits into category A or B of the departments risk ratings, applicants will be required to have been vaccinated against influenza. Evidence of vaccination is required.
