Carbon Farming National Campaign Leader, Outback to Oceans Program, Pew Charitable Trusts

The Opportunity:

An experienced and successful advocate, with expertise and understanding of carbon farming, is sought to lead and drive work to support carbon farming in remote Australian landscapes. Pew's Outback to Oceans program is expanding its work to obtain protection and sustainable management of remote landscapes. This position will lead work to increase the scale of environmentally positive carbon farming options in remote Australia. The successful candidate will work as part of a broader, well-resourced team seeking to improve conservation outcomes across all tenures in the Outback.

The ideal candidate:

• Has proven success as a campaigner with experience designing, implementing and winning campaigns to achieve conservation outcomes
• Has experience and expertise on climate change policy and knowledge of the history and delivery of carbon farming to date in Australia
• Can engage with decision makers and stakeholders including farmers & graziers, Indigenous groups, carbon companies, policy makers, ministers, government departments, media and conservation organisations- to build support for and achieve campaign goals
• Is politically astute and able to leverage relationships to influence positive outcomes
• Has a strong commitment to creating on-ground results

Pew works in Australia to obtain better, science-based, protection and management of land and seascapes in the Australian Outback and adjacent seas. Fundamental to our work is obtaining durable conservation outcomes that imbed long term and positive land and sea management by local people. Our work has been highly successful at achieving major gains in on-ground conservation outcomes in the Outback over the last 12 years.

Location:

The position will be ideally located in Canberra, with other east coast locations such as Sydney and Melbourne being possibly considered. The position reports to the Terrestrial Director, Outback to Oceans.
