  • Salary: $95,000 rate plus super. At 0.4FTE a take-home salary of $38,000 + super

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced CA/CPA wanting to utilise their broad accounting skill-set and commercial acumen developed over many years.  

About the man cave:

The Man Cave is a preventative mental health and emotional intelligence non-profit organisation for young men, their parents and teachers. Through transformational workshops, camps and keynote presentations we facilitate courageous conversations and long-term behaviour change focused on healthy masculinity, mental health, respectful relationships and gender equality.

Since 2014, we have positively impacted the lives of over 12,000 young men across Australia and 99% of our participants ‘strongly recommend’ the program to other young men. We have also worked with 3,000+ parents, teachers and community members to better support the young men in their lives. We believe it is incredibly important to actively develop greater self-awareness and create healthy perceptions about personal identity, gender, and mental health to support the development of young people through their turbulent times of life.

Position summary:

The Head of Finance at The Man Cave is a new and dynamic position that plays a critical role in developing and maintaining the financial systems that will allow TMC to thrive.

After outsourcing our financial function for the last few years, we are now creating the role of Head of Finance to support our rapid growth by building and maintaining critical financial systems and processes that support TMC’s governance and achievement of its mission.

Your primary responsibilities will be to support the CEO to manage all elements of TMC’s financial lifecycle and providing financial insights and analysis that support TMC’s sustainability and growth. Your role will require a combination of sound financial, compliance, modelling and problem-solving capabilities, efficient work methods, and a strong understanding of the not-for-profit sector.

key responsibilities:

Financial Management and modelling:

  • Preparing and recommending TMC’s annual budget to the Board and supporting senior TMC staff to prepare and monitor their annual budgets
  • Preparation of financials for regular Board meetings
  • Working with our external bookkeeper regarding bookkeeping duties, including wages, finalising month-end accounts and reconciliations
  • Overseeing high-level banking matters
  • Business performance reporting and recommendations to the CEO and Board
  • Basic modelling and planning that will inform and support TMC’s long-term plans and financial sustainability

Compliance, risk and governance:

  • Overseeing the preparation of the annual General Purpose Financial statements in accordance with accounting standards
  • Overseeing the annual audit, including providing information and resolving queries with our independent auditor
  • Preparing and filing the Annual Information Statement to the ACNC in accordance with ACNC requirements
  • Working with external bookkeepers to oversee the preparation and filing of Superannuation, BAS and IS statements and any other statutory compliance documents
  • With the support of TMC’s Board, monitoring TMC’s financial governance and risk mitigation measures

Donors and philanthropy:

  • Supporting senior staff in the preparation of timely financial acquittals to donors in alignment with donor agreements and expectations
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts and other analyses to support grant applications

Financial upskilling, coaching and liaison:

  • Upskilling and coaching senior TMC staff and strengthening the financial literacy of the organisation
  • Being the general financial in-house contact for staff, Board and bookkeeper queries head of finance

  • You are able to commit to a minimum of 6 months to the role

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Chartered accountant or CPA accredited
  • Experience in building and maintaining new financial processes and systems
  • Strong understanding of financial statutory and accounting standards
  • Not-for-profit financial reporting, donor acquittal and governance experience
  • Strong financial modelling and Microsoft Excel capabilities
  • Comfort using Xero accounting software
  • Strong attention to detail
  • An enthusiasm for learning and self-reflection
  • Organised, efficient and communicative

A valid Working With Children Check is mandatory requirements of this position and will be required prior to commencement.
