The Co-operative Life specialises in Psycho-social Support Services and we are dedicated to working with vulnerable people and making sure that they don’t slip through the cracks.

We are growing and currently have a Support Worker vacancy working with and supporting participants to achieve their NDIS plan goals. This is an opportunity to join the Co-operative Life supporting individuals living with Mental Health conditions to lead meaningful lives.

The role duties:

We are looking for experienced Psycho-social/Mental Health Support Workers to fill positions that we have available in the Sydney and surrounding areas.

You will provide a range of support services, dependent upon the client's requirements, 7 days a week.

You need to have experience with complex personality disorders and challenging behaviours.

You should be an empathetic and pragmatic thinker, be able to work both independently and within a team environment.

Our clients require Support Workers who will assist them to maintain and increase their independence by supporting them with personal care, domestic activities, social and community participation and transportation.

Professional Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience - of previous psycho-social disability assistance
  • Working experience within the Mental Health environment is required: experience in mental health and intellectual disabilities
  • Cert III/or IV in Mental Health or willingness to obtain
  • Proof of 3 doses COVID19 Vaccination requirement being met (including of the validation of the medical exemptions, if any) under the NSW Public Health Order
  • Individual Support Plan knowledge required
  • In-depth understanding of NDIS and Aged Care industry requirements – is a must
  • In-depth person-centred support experience
  • Empathy and the ability to build strong relationships
  • Experience in mental health, physical and intellectual disabilities and also aged care home support
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have a reliable, registered and comprehensively insured vehicle
  • Have a current Driver's Licence
  • Own a smart phone with Internet access
  • Current NDIS Clearance (which replaced National Police)
  • Current Working with Children check
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Valid working rights within Australia

Interpersonal skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated capacity to collaborate as part of a diverse team and work autonomously.
  • High level of stress resilience and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and use initiative.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated flexibility in methods of alternative and augmentative communication, particularly being able to use active listening skills.
