Thamarrurr Development Corporation (TDC) is seeking a NDIS Ability Services Coordinator to join our Wadeye team.

TDC operates out of Wadeye with our Head Office in Darwin. Wadeye is a large remote indigenous community in the North-West Daly region. We are a thriving Not-for-Profit corporate entity organisation, owned by members of the Wangka, Tjanpa and Lirga peoples. TDC has been established by the 20 clans of the Thamarrurr Region to represent them in relation to business, socio-economic development and employment and training.

The Ability Services Coordinator is an integral part of Healthy People Team, working to provide responsive, individualised services and support for each person and family consistent with their NDIS plan, relevant legislation, TDC policies and quality safety and security guidelines, including any contractual guidelines.

You’ll be working closely with local community members to develop, guide and implement culturally appropriate, safe, fulfilling, and person-centred NDIS plans.

Main duties include:

  • Develop and lead a team of Disability Support Workers (DSW).
  • Develop and deliver personal support services as defined in the participant’s NDIS plan, using a strengths-based, person-centred framework.
  • Work with clients and DSW’s to help build their own capacity and independence.
  • Build knowledge of local services and organisations clients can utilise, including advocacy services.
  • Maintain complete case notes and other records in CMS system and maintain accurate records of hours of support provided to substantiate NDIS claiming.
  • Work collaboratively to provide support and encouragement for NDIS clients to participate appropriately, including those with disabilities, partial work capacity and multiple barriers.
  • Provide high level engagement, advocacy, and advice on NDIS service provision to TDC and other relevant organisations.
  • Assess and manage risk in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Positively contribute to the wider TDC workforce including participating in relevant team meetings and forums etc. as required.
  • Ensure all personal and confidential material is managed in accordance with organisational guidelines.

To be successful you:

  • Must understand the challenges of working in remote Australia.
  • Must have a high level of communication and interpersonal skills with people in remote communities.
  • Must understand the barriers faced by clients in remote communities who may have complex needs and who are culturally and linguistically diverse.
  • Prior demonstrated experience working within disability/social services case management framework.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to meet requirements of the role, whilst following organisational guidelines and policies and procedures.

  • OCHRE Card
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Full COVID-19 Immunisation status
  • Current National Police Clearance
  • Northern Land Council Work Permit and Resident Permit
  • Current NT Open Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
