ABOUT THE ROLE

Tenants Victoria is the specialist tenancy law community legal centre in Victoria. We provide legal assistance to tenants and advocate and campaign for reform to residential tenancy law and practice. Through our education and training programs we support other community agencies to build capability to assist their clients.

Lawyers within our currently 10 person team provide legal assistance by way of our tenancy phone advice line, email advice, negotiation assistance, representation and advocacy.

ABOUT YOU

You are a driven, motivated self-starter who has the ability to work autonomously to deliver high quality results and exceed expectations. You have high attention to detail, are well-organised and have the ability to build rapport with people quickly.

Key to your success is your:

• Knowledge of residential tenancies law, or ability to quickly learn this area of law.
• Demonstrated high level communication skills (oral and written), and excellent listening skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively manage competing demands, including knowing when to escalate matters to a supervisor.
• Strong administrative, organisational and IT skills.

This is fixed-term, full-time position for a period of 12 months.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

You will have:

1. A current practicing certificate.
2. At least 12 months’ post admission experience with substantial experience in the conduct of legal casework from commencement to conclusion, preferably in tenancy or otherwise in a civil jurisdiction (advocacy experience at VCAT preferred).
