We have an exciting position based in Broome, Western Australia for an Aboriginal Community Research Assistant. The role will provide support and guidance to the Many Healthy Lungs Team to ensure all community-based activities such as engagement, recruitment and data collection is undertaken in a culturally appropriate and respectful way.

The Opportunity:

At the Telethon Kids Institute, we are bringing together community, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and funders, to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.

The role provides the opportunity to be a part of the Children's Lung Health team at Telethon Kids, which aims to improve lung health in children with asthma, neuromuscular disease, cystic fibrosis, following preterm birth and Aboriginal lung health.

The Role:

We are seeking a dynamic Aboriginal Community Research Assistant.

The Aboriginal Community Research Assistant/s will be involved in research programs that include lung function testing, community engagement, recruitment, data collection, data management and working in a supportive team environment.

This role will suit individuals with a passion for improving Aboriginal lung health who are able to work independently and are comfortable in dealing with families, children and young people. An opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and motivated individual to develop their skills in a research environment. In particular, the successful applicant will receive training in lung function testing.

This position may be part-time (0.6 FTE) to full-time and is available for a fixed term of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Generous salary packaging is also available.

The Experience:

To be eligible for this role, individuals should have a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice or equivalent experience.

Please note that it is a genuine occupational requirement for this position to be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person in accordance with section 51(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).

The successful candidate will need to provide a satisfactory National Police Check and a Working with Children Check before commencement. They should also have a valid driver’s licence and have their own vehicle. Work-related fuel costs will be provided.
