The Rural Youth Mental Health team has two full time positions available. As part of an outreach team, these positions will provide youth mental health supports to the communities of Narromine, Coonamble, Cobar and Gilgandra. Position location is flexible to meet the requirements of the program. We welcome diversity in all its forms; applications from underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged.   • Rural Youth Mental Health is a community outreach program providing mental health supports to young people within a stepped care model, helping young people to overcome mental health challenges, isolation and barriers.
  • The Benevolent Society is a flexible, proactive, mobile and COVID safe workplace, providing resources and support in response to changing circumstances.

The Rural Youth Mental Health program has partnered with Bila Muuji Aboriginal Corporation Health Service to provide individualised, holistic and collaborative mental health supports to young people, 12-25 years, across a range of communities in Western NSW. You will develop meaningful working relationships with young people, develop and implement tailored mental health supports utilising an evidence informed practice framework, to support the young person make positive changes in their lives.

Your new role:

You will support young people to build their social and emotional wellbeing, to recognise and manage their mental health through individualised therapeutic support, group work and case management. Working collaboratively within communities and with a range service partners, you will reduce barriers for young people to engage with services and reduce the impact of mental health challenges.

What you need to succeed?

As an experienced Social Worker, Psychologist, Mental Health Worker or Case Manager, you'll have:

  • Experience supporting young people experiencing mental health challenges
  • Experience working in rural communities, and an ability to develop and maintain community connections
  • A holistic, person centred approach with a calm, reassuring and confident manner
  • Experience conducting assessments, providing case management, psychological interventions, counselling or group work
  • Be a natural team player with the capacity to work independently and autonomously
  • A relevant degree qualification Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field) and a current driver's licence
  • A demonstrated ability to provide outreach supports and well developed travel and time management skills
