Family and Child Connect is a Queensland Government funded initiative aimed at ensuring vulnerable families and children have access to high-quality services at the right time to help them to maintain the family unit. The Family and Child Connect program strengthens families so children can live at home safely, free from abuse and neglect, and enjoy the best possible start to life. We deliver voluntary services to families at high risk of entering or escalating within the statutory child protection system. Family and Child Connect is a community based intake and referral service, established across Queensland to support families who are at risk of entering or re-entering the child protection system and to help families to care for and protect their children at home.

The Role:

Our Family and Child Connect program has an exciting opportunity for 1x Identified position to join our team covering the Logan/Beenleigh/Bayside catchment, office located in Loganholme.

The role will provide quality service delivery to children, young people, families and the community within the Family and Child Connect Service, through assessment, information and advice, recommendations and referrals to appropriate support services. You will engage with referrers and families, complete initial assessments over the phone and in client homes to support at risk families to access appropriate supports to improve family functioning and child wellbeing.

Terms: Full-Time ongoing role based in Loganholme, QLD.

This is an Identified position. The Benevolent Society considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act QLD 1991.

What you need to succeed?

Having recognition from Community as a culturally safe person and practitioner, you will have:

  • 2+ years’ experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families within safety and/or well-being context with 1+ year case management experience
  • Excellent understanding of child protection issues & client vulnerabilities, and the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development
  • Understanding of the needs of diverse communities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), and LGBTI communities.
  • Experience and demonstrated capacity to build rapport in a short time frame
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Experience identifying and addressing child protection concerns
  • Holistic strengths based approach to achieve lasting change
  • High level of professional accountability and integrity and a belief that every parent has potential
  • A relevant bachelor degree qualification
  • Current driver’s license
