Facilitator - The Big Issue Classroom

The Big Issue

Are you a workshop facilitator with a passion for social justice? Do you love working with the community, especially schools? This new role is the perfect mix of education and community development.

  • Engage and educate school students and community groups
  • Drive generational social change
  • Based in Canberra
  • Casual hours

The Big Issue Classroom is a social enterprise run by The Big Issue Australia that delivers a range of different educational workshops educating primary and secondary students, community groups, and corporate audiences on issues surrounding homelessness and marginalisation.

The Big Issue Classroom recently started delivering workshops in Canberra, and we’re looking for facilitators who have flexibility to participate in promotional activities, deliver workshops and manage the involvement of guest speakers who have personally experienced homelessness. There is potential for growth in the role with the right candidate.

The successful candidate will have sound experience in teaching or facilitating training or workshops, will be confident presenting to a range of audiences, have an understanding and appreciation of issues faced by people experiencing homelessness, and a passion for working with a variety of people.

A level of comfort working one-on-one with guest speakers and advanced public speaking skills are a must. Sensitivity and good judgement are essential, and tertiary qualifications are preferred. The role involves some shifts outside of regular work hours. A driver’s licence and vehicle will be an advantage. A Working with Vulnerable People Check and Police Check will be required by any successful applicant.

The Big Issue is in an exciting phase of growth and development; don’t miss this rare opportunity to be a leader in creating generational social change!
