A rewarding employment opportunity for a Program Manager, Cultural Fire has become available at the Taungurung Land and Waters Council (TLaWC). We are the corporate representative of the Taungurung people. As a Registered Aboriginal Party (2009), TLaWC serves to uphold the interests of Taungurung people with respect to Culture and Country

This role will oversee the development and implementation of a Taungurung Cultural Fire Program that restores Taungurung Cultural Fire Knowledge and reinvigorates Cultural Fire Practice on Country, in line with the Values, Goals and Objectives of the Taungurung Nation.

The role will facilitate a process of ever-increasing Taungurung involvement in the application of Cultural Fire management across traditional lands.

Duties:

• Form a Taungurung fire practice circle that is embedded in the healing knowledge group to support the reactivation of Cultural Fire Knowledge and Practice.
• Lead the development of a Taungurung Cultural Fire Strategy, as a sub-strategy of the Country Plan.
• Lead implementation of the Cultural Fire program and be a key contact point at Taungurung in relation to Fire management (and associated management) for the Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning, Parks Victoria, Country Fire Authority and other land and fire management agencies and partners, including Private Land holders.
• Coordinate and engage with other Nations and the State in program implementation, learning and future policy development.
• Establish opportunities for Taungurung people to heal, apply, monitor and adapt fire practice that gives effect to cultural objectives and to heal Country, in collaboration with Biik Environmental (TLaWC’s cultural and natural resource management service provider).
• Establish Cultural Fire and related research partnerships including the establishment of monitoring programs to determine the effects of Cultural Fire practice.
• Work in partnership with Biik Environmental to develop and implement fire management plans for Taungurung owned properties, and work in partnership with State land and fire managers to develop fire management plans on Public Land.
• Collaborate with Biik Environmental to develop a cultural fire service offer and establish partnerships, governance and process for participation of Taungurung fire crews in wildfire emergency management and planned burns.
