The Party Manager is the most senior staff member of the Tasmanian Greens and is responsible for managing the programs and operations of the party. The Party Manager will provide the party’s decision-making bodies with support and advice, and will ensure that the party’s resources are used to implement the party’s decisions and strategic plans.
The role involves supervision of a team of staff including those based in the State Office (currently three people) and a variable number of staff engaged on short term appointments during peak campaign periods. The Party Manager is responsible for ensuring the party provides a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for staff and volunteers.
The Party Manager manages the party’s financial, information, technology and other resources in accordance with agreed strategies, policies and budgets.
The Party Manager liaises with the party’s elected representatives (federal, state and local) and their offices. The Party Manager also liaises with the national office and the other constituent parties of the Australian Greens.
- Hours: 0.4 - 0.6 FTE (i.e. 2-3 days per week)
- Salary: $122,525 per annum (pro rata) plus 11.5% superannuation

- Accountability: Reports to the State Management Committee and the State Convenor as line manager
- Probation: Three months with the option to extend for another three months

Primary Responsibilities
- Provide high-level political, strategic, campaign and management advice and assistance to party office bearers and governance committees.
- Implement party decisions and strategies through the direction of State Office activity and staff, including campaign activity and party administration.
- Supervise and manage the Tasmanian Greens’ staff, operational systems and financial resources within approved budgets.
- Develop and implement the party’s fundraising strategy, including the development of an ongoing and sustainable fundraising model
- Liaise with the offices of elected representatives, the Australian Greens and other state and territory Greens parties.
- Monitor and report on financial and operational matters.
- Ensure high integrity record-keeping and reporting, including to the Australian Electoral Commission and Tasmanian Electoral Commission.
Selection Criteria
The Party Manager must have:
- A commitment to the Greens charter and policies
- Strong leadership and management skills including effective program and proven project management skills
- Well-developed organisational, strategic and analytical skills, including the proven ability to prioritise and manage variable workloads, using initiative and judgement to achieve outcomes
- Demonstrated experience engaging, enabling and coordinating staff and volunteers to achieve program and project outcomes as part of a team
- Highly regarded communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to effectively liaise, consult, negotiate and work with a broad range of people within and beyond the party
- Sound financial management skills, including proven ability to develop and maintain project budgets, comply with internal accounting procedures and accurately interpret financial reports
- Experience managing people, including exercising line management responsibilities, and
- An understanding of, and an ability to work within, the political environment.
It would be desirable if the Party Manager also had:
- Familiarity with the Australian Greens data management systems (including CiviCRM), or the ability and willingness to quickly acquire these skills
- Experience with fundraising
- Experience managing field campaigns and online campaigns.
