The Navigator Program

The Navigator program in the south east is a partnership between Taskforce, South East Local Learning and Employment Network, Centre for Multicultural Youth, and South East Community Links. The program supports disengaged learners, aged 12-17 years, to re-engage with an education or training pathway.

About the Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Mental Health Outreach Clinician with a 'can do' attitude and an innovative approach to helping young people. The Mental Health Outreach Clinician will provide non-judgmental assertive outreach support to young people and their families in an environment that is accessible, non-threatening and safe. It is a dynamic role that provides intensive therapeutic case work to young people, some family work as well as group-based interventions. The client group are young people with complex support needs which may include; drug and alcohol use, ill mental health, school disengagement, criminal activity and family conflict. The principle of harm minimisation is fundamental to the approach of funded drug treatment services.

Who we are looking for

Ideally you have 4 + years experience implementing evidence-based psychological interventions to meet the needs of young people with psychological issues. You are also experienced in working with families, particularly in terms of casework, individual and family support, group work and counselling. You have demonstrated experience working autonomously, you are practical, useful and tenacious; with the ultimate purpose of helping young people to achieve a positive pro-social identity and achieve a sense of belonging and connectedness in their communities. You are someone who can think outside of the square and be creative in how, when and where young people are engaged and supported. Relevant qualifications in an allied health discipline such as psychology, social work, mental health nursing or occupational therapy will be highly regarded.
