THE OPPORTUNITY

The Tangentyere Youth and Community Safety Service (YCSS) is an innovative and unique program that supports Aboriginal children and youth to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing in the Alice Springs Greater Region.

Working closely with the YCSS manager and Youth Service Co-ordinators, the Town Camp Youth Team Leader will provide leadership and day to day support to the Youth Services Town Camp team, including general and specialist youth workers. The team leader will have significant face-to-face experience creating, organising and running youth activities with one or more staff members.

Our successful candidate will have a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and experience working with young people. As Team Leader you will possess flexibility, have a strong work ethic, and the ability to serve as a role model for your team members and the young people in community.

Drawing on significant knowledge of trauma informed practice and using strengths-based framework, the Team Leader will support the Town Camp Youth Workers in the delivery of a range of culturally appropriate, diverse and meaningful after hours support services and activities for at risk youth. They will be responsible for the design and implementation of a monthly activities calendar and organising a schedule where all 16 Town Camps receive after school activities at least once a week. This position involves out of hours work including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Support YCSS management in developing Town Camp Youth Programs, particularly the support of four Town Camp community hubs with delivery of a range of After Hours support services and youth activities that are culturally appropriate, solutions based and trauma informed, Monday to Saturday.
  • Provide leadership to Town Camp Youth Team and provide a collaborative and integrated approach to planning, resourcing of, and delivery of service. Provision of staff supervision, staff development and training. A strong commitment to duty of care and risk assessment necessary.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders within Town Camps and the wider region.
  • Contribution to funding applications and reports and ensuring appropriate data collection and reporting requirements are met in timely fashion.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and Youth Service policies/procedures and operational objectives.
  • Contribute towards building the capacity of local indigenous staff to create pathways for individual progression.
  • Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

  • Qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Education, Community Development or relevant experience.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, supervisory, and operational skills regarding program development, planning and implementation across multiple sites/locations.
  • High level understanding of trauma informed practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering youth/social services and programs in a cross-cultural context – preferably with Aboriginal people and communities.
  • Ability to develop rapport and support mechanisms with young people, often building and maintaining professional relationships with family members and key stakeholders (internal and external).
  • High level computer literacy and report writing skills.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Current NT Drivers Licence, Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check and proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.
