WHO WE ARE
Tandem is the Victorian peak body representing family and friends supporting people living with mental health issues. Tandem’s mission is to provide leadership and coordination for the community of individuals and organisations who seek better outcomes for Victorian mental health carers.
SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Senior Policy and Communications officer is responsible for leading, coordinating, maintaining and supporting policy and communications activity across the organisation. This role will actively contribute, develop and respond to policy issues and will provide research and communications advice to the CEO.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
This role is a key part of the team involved in Tandem’s dissemination of information to key stakeholders.
This role will take the lead in providing high level support to the CEO on:
- Policy issues currently in review or being advocated at a State and National level.
- Submissions
- Communications and campaigns
You will work closely with colleagues to ensure that Tandem’s communication is clear, engaging, and timely and reflects our strategic priorities.
Key Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in public policy, health or communications field
- Exceptional ability to write clearly and quickly with the existing ability or capacity to acquire sophisticated understanding of mental health family and friends research and policy, including the ability to research, compile and prepare reports, submissions and documents.
- Knowledge and experience of political processes and government policy in a campaigning or advocacy role.
- High level verbal communication and relationship management skills including the ability to interact confidently and with authority with senior staff in Government departments and key stakeholders
- Minimum 5 years professional work experience in the not for profit sector (health sector preferred), including developing or contributing to evidence-based resources and/or policy analysis and review
- Ability to identify and analyse problems, establish appropriate solutions and recommendations using analytical and conceptual skills in a timely manner.
