We are seeking a suitably qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 4 years’ post admission experience to fill an existing vacancy at Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre (NSCLC). We seek to fill a current vacancy that exists in addition to establishing a pool of suitably qualified Solicitors for future vacancies.
NSCLC aims to provide clients with a service that is specific to their needs. Our team of volunteers and workers are dedicated to ensuring we raise community awareness on legal information, advice and options. We understand that legal and social matters can be complex and often require a combination of legal, social and financial support.
You are a key part of the NSCLC team dedicated to serving clients from a range of vulnerable groups in the Western Australian community. One element of our entire NSCLC team has in common, is the belief in Social Justice – the right that all people should have equal access to wealth, health, well-being, justice and opportunity.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide legal case management, shuttle conferencing for respondents involved in family and domestic violence matters and duty lawyer services respondents. To undertake associated work supporting the functions of the general legal service, with experience in restraining orders and minor criminal law. Duties include:
The person we are seeking will be a strong collaborator, able to build community networks in a professional setting and be passionate about working with vulnerable groups from culturally and linguistically diverse groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
You will also have strong case management capability, including an ability to interview and assess clients’ problems, identify options, provide information and feedback, provide advice, make referrals and seek to evaluate outcomes.
You will have experience working with respondents and advising clients of their legal options, how to progress their case, and what to expect in court. You will be adept in appearing for clients in court, preparing court documents, negotiating on behalf of clients.
The person will hold a Bachelor of Laws degree (or recognised equivalent) and will be entitled to practice as a lawyer in Western Australia with a minimum of 4 years’ experience.
