Synapse ensures the rights of people impacted by brain injury, by connecting knowledge, policy, services and systems. Over the past 35 years, Synapse—Australia’s Brain Injury Organisation, has grown to employ around 150 people. We provide a range of services, including information and referral, specialist supports, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services, advocacy, housing and targeted research activities. Synapse promotes quality of life, self-determination and choice. Our mission is to ensure the rights of people impacted by brain injury, by connecting knowledge, policy, services and systems.

About the Role:

We’re going through an exciting growth phase and this is a newly created role which will be critical to capturing the voice of our organisation and the people we support through the creation of engaging video content and imagery. You’ll join our creative, friendly and fun team in a role where you will bring your heart and your initiative - with a capital I - to the mix.

  • You will drive the creation of all video content required across Synapse, whether it’s a more professionally taken storytelling piece, or whether it’s a quick chat captured over Zoom or on mobile. We are looking for someone who can seize an opportunity to create content and remain flexible in their approach.
  • You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team with other professionals across media, communications, marketing and digital marketing to deliver on Synapse’s marketing and communications strategy.
  • The visual content you produce will be a combination of educational, informative, storytelling and entertaining and often including the people we support, our staff, brain injury health professionals and the communities in which we serve. Sometimes it will be gritty, sometimes it will be uplifting, but it will always be authentic and true to the Synapse way.
  • Your work will be utilised across the website, social media, training, YouTube and other channels.
  • The role is three days per week, and this can be worked across the week as desired. Flexible for the right person.
  • Although based at our West End office, you will have the flexibility to be able to travel as required with this position.

About You:

As the ideal candidate, you demonstrate personal alignment with Synapse’s core values. In addition:

  • Ideally you will have at least a minimum of 2 years professional experience in a similar role with a good understanding of the online/digital media campaign space.
  • Have a knack for translating the complex into simple and understand what engages an audience.
  • Initiative is key, and the ability to use your creativity to develop content that shines.
  • Have the demonstrated ability to communicate and liaise effectively and sensitively at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Proven time management skills and the ability to balance conflicting priorities and work to tight deadlines.
  • Your own vehicle for work use.
