Role Overview:

The Youth Transition Support Worker (YTSW) is part of the organisation's Community Engagement Division and is funded through the Youth Transition Support Program. This position will provide targeted support services for newly arrived young migrants and refugees aged (14-25 years) to transition from education to employment opportunities, leading to engagement and community connectedness. Young migrants and refugees with complex needs who have arrived in Australia more than five years ago will be eligible for the program. The YTSW will facilitate pathways to address disengagement and marginalisation and promote social cohesion. This position will be a maternity leave cover fixed term part-time 3 days a week (18 hours) until the 17 June 2022.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To provide settlement support for young refugees and other vulnerable young migrants (under the age of 26) to make successful transitions to educations and employment in Blacktown LGAs.
  • Work with a team of youth workers to map, consult, develop, manage and monitor projects and their deliverables.
  • To initiate and enable the development of key projects and activities in line with project guidelines and approved work plans to ensure positive client outcomes.
  • To assist young people with referrals, training and support their journey towards securing meaningful employment.
  • Establish and maintain key stakeholder relationships in Central Western Sydney including Blacktown LGAs.
  • Work with and support young people to develop confidence, skills, structures and knowledge to engage and participate in mainstream education and employment programs.
  • Provide assistance to young people from the target group to make social connections and participate in the broader mainstream community.
  • To monitor and evaluate programmes to ensure that they are relevant and responsive to the changing needs of young people.
  • To keep accurate statistical information of participants accessing services and programmes;
  • Provide written reports and client statistics as required.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Human Services, Social Work or Youth Work
  • Demonstrated knowledge of migrant and refugee communities and youth issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of available support services for migrant and refugee youth.
  • Excellent consultation, planning and program development skills.
  • High level analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge on mandatory reporting and child protection issues within CALD communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced application skills in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Stress management skills.
  • Ensure confidentiality and discretion to all service matters and client information.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Current driver's license and access to a full registered motor vehicle.
  • Satisfactory National Police Check & Working with Children Check required.
