Role Overview:

The Generalist Caseworker is part of the Community Engagement Division. It is funded through the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) program and empowers humanitarian entrants, other eligible migrants and their communities to address their settlement needs in order to improve social participation, economic well-being, independence, personal well-being and community connectedness.

This position will be on a fixed-term part-time basis (21 hours a week) and will end on 25 June 2021. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide casework services to the target communities and assist them in their settlement needs based on their identified needs
  • Developing individual case plans, information, referral & advocacy
  • Facilitate the provision of information sessions on relevant topics and/or services as identified to the target communities
  • Resource, support and facilitate the establishment of support groups and community activities for the target community
  • Ensure reporting is accurate and submitted on time
  • Support and assist SydWest MS students and volunteers if required
  • Participate in community consultation, needs analysis and evaluation as part of the Community Engagement Division
  • Assist in organising events at organisational and project level
  • Comply with all regulatory, funding standards and SydWest MS Policies and Procedures
  • Comply with all reporting requirements as directed by Team Leader -Settlement Services
  • Ensure confidentiality and discretion to all service matters and client information
  • Undertake other duties as required by the Community Services and Engagement Manager/Team Leader -Settlement Services
  • Ensure personal safety and have a positive attitude towards a work-life balance

Essential Criteria (needs to be addressed on a separate document) 

  • Qualification in Community Services, Human Services, Social Work or related area and 2 years’ experience in relevant field
  • Bilingual (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in casework/case management related to settlement services
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues affecting humanitarian entrants and CALD communities
  • Experience with and/or understanding of the principles of ‘strength-based’ and ‘person-centred’ service planning and delivery
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Child Protection issues
  • Effective interpersonal & cross-cultural communication and client advocacy skills with the ability to liaise effectively with all key stakeholders including clients, service providers and their communities
  • Demonstrated values of integrity, professionalism and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, delivery and evaluation of group activities and support groups
  • Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office programs
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy, particularly with record keeping and report writing
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Current driver’s license and access to a fully registered motor vehicle
  • First Aid Certificate required
  • National Police Check and Working with Children Check required
