Role Overview:

The Families Project Officer is part of the organisation’s Community Engagement Division. It is responsible for supporting the DCJ Targeted Early Intervention Program to empower parents to be engaged in decisions that affect their lives and deliver improved outcomes for families with children aged 0-8 years.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Comply with Work Plan requirements;
  • Provide supported playgroups to provide parents an opportunity to share experiences of parenting and for children to socialise, play and learn in a structured and positive environment;
  • Provide parenting programs to assist parents with effective activities, information and coaching to build positive parenting skills; Triple P, Hippy and Safe series
  • Support families to improve family wellbeing and informal support groups and access to appropriate services;
  • Participate in networks and partnership activities as directed by CE Team Leader: Women and Families so that referrals for children and parents are appropriate, professional and relevant to their needs.
  • Participate in community consultation, needs analysis and evaluation as part of CE Division;
  • Provide casework management services for clients;
  • Work with CE Team Leader: Women and Families to develop strategies to engage new clients;
  • Ensure reporting is accurate and submitted on time;
  • Support and assist SydWest MS students and volunteers if required;
  • Assist the CE Team Leader: Women and Families in the development of programs and services;
  • Assist in organising events at organisational and project level;
  • Comply with all regulatory, funding standards and SydWest MS policies and procedures;
  • Comply with all reporting requirements as directed by CE Team Leader: Women and Families;
  • Ensure confidentiality and discretion to all service matters and client information;
  • Undertake other duties as required by the Community Services & Engagement Manager/CE Team Leader: Women and Families;
  • Ensure personal safety and have a positive attitude towards a work-life balance

Essential Criteria (needs to be addressed on a separate document)

  • Qualification in Community Services, Human Services, Social Work or related area and 2 years’ experience in relevant field;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood and family support services;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of Supported Playgroups and Parenting Groups from CALD backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Child Protection issues;
  • High level interpersonal, communication skills and report writing;
  • Effective interpersonal and cross cultural communication and client advocacy skills with the ability to liaise effectively with all key stakeholders including clients, service providers and their communities;
  • Experience providing effective, strength- based and person centred services/programs clients;
  • Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office programs;
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy & excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritise work;
  • Current driver’s licence and access to a full registered motor vehicle;
  • First Aid Certificate required
  • Satisfactory Working With Children Check. National Police Check or the willingness to obtain one.
