As a South West Community Legal Centre employee you will be making a real difference every day. This position is well suited to a legal practitioner or paralegal with experience in family law, domestic and family violence issues, child protection and other relevant practice areas. The applicant will need to demonstrate an understanding of the cultural, social and economic issues facing people in the South West community.

As a key team member you will work with other staff members and report to the Managing Principal Solicitor.

You will ideally have experience in most or all of the following areas of law: restraining order matters, family law, child protection, criminal injuries compensation and other areas of civil law.

As part of a small legal team, you’ll be applying your skills and sharing your knowledge across a diverse range of matters. Reporting directly to our Principal Solicitor, you’ll manage a diverse caseload and be given opportunities to further your own professional development.

This is a 2 day per week position based in our Bunbury office, and may involve travel to our nearby Outreach locations or local courts. All positions at South West Community Legal Centre are subject to ongoing funding.

APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

  • A Bachelor of Laws qualification and hold or be eligible to hold a practicing certificate, or significant experience/qualifications to practice as a paralegal
  • Experience, or a willingness to gain experience, in most or all of the following areas of law: family law, child protection, civil and generalist law, restraining order and criminal injuries compensation matters
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated high level written and legal research skills
  • Sound time management skills
  • Ability to meet service delivery quality standards and targets
  • A strong commitment to social justice and access to justice
  • Hold a current, Western Australian Driver's Licence (full or probationary licence)
