As a South West Community Legal Centre employee, you will be making a real difference every day. This position is well suited to a legal practitioner with experience in family law, family violence related issues, child protection, tenancy and other civil law. The applicant will need to demonstrate an understanding of the cultural, social and economic issues facing people in the South West community.

As a key team member, you will work with other staff members and report to the Managing Principal Solicitor.

You will ideally have experience in most or all of the following areas of law: restraining order matters, family law, child protection, criminal injuries compensation, tenancy and other areas of civil law.

Part of a small legal team, you’ll be applying your skills and sharing your knowledge across a diverse range of matters. Reporting directly to our Managing Principal Solicitor, you will manage a diverse caseload and be given opportunities to further your own professional development. You will also provide supervision, guidance, and professional support to other members of the legal team including paralegals and restricted practitioners.

There is flexibility to negotiate the hours of this position. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be employed 3 days per week. This position is based in our Bunbury office, and may involve travel to our nearby Outreach locations or local courts. APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

  • A Bachelor of Laws qualification and hold or be eligible to hold an unrestricted practicing certificate with minimum 4 years post-admission experience;
  • Experience, or a willingness to gain experience, in most or all of the following areas of law: family law, child protection, civil and generalist law, restraining order; tenancy and criminal injuries compensation matters;
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively supervising, managing, motivating and mentoring legal staff and volunteers;
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office products and computer literacy;
  • Strong time management skills and ability to resolve competing priorities;
  • Ability to meet service delivery quality standards and targets;
  • A strong commitment to social justice; and
  • Hold a current, Western Australian Driver's Licence (full or probationary licence).

Desirable skills/experience

  • Experience developing and delivering legal education seminars;
  • Experience working with Culturally and linguistically diverse, Aboriginal or vulnerable community members; and
  • Experience working within the legal assistance sector.
