Position Summary:

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated security officer with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to be able to:

  • Comply with policies and standards of the NSW Ministry of Health Protecting People and Property for Security Risk Management in NSW Health Agencies (Security Manual); SVHN Policies & Procedures to deliver a professional, customer- focused security service to minimise security risks
  • Promptly respond to alarms and providing security response for all emergencies in accordance with relevant law and procedures
  • Ensure all security patrols, tasks and activities are completed in accordance with instructions and training
  • Provide input to security related operational and administrative matters during shift
  • Support other security staff with 'on the job' orientation and assisting with emergency response and security duties and activities
  • Contribute to a cohesive and inclusive team environment

The security team operates 365 days 24/7 shifts. This position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC) issued by the Office of the Children's Guardian. 

The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only.

Selection Criteria

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant security experience in a challenging environment with a working knowledge of security industry standards and relevant legislation
  • Recent experience in the use of electronic security systems and infrastructure
  • Advanced conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of customer service approach to security activities with an ability to maintain collaborative and effective relationships
  • Demonstrated high level of self-motivation and initiative with a professional approach to the role
  • Must hold NSW security license 1A; NSW Driver's License 'C' and current relevant first aid certificate
  • Ideally, possess 'Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques'; 'Control persons using empty hand techniques' or similar certification from a nationally recognised training organisation
