About Department

St Vincent's Operating Suite houses 12 theatres, 12 anaesthetic rooms and a Post Anaesthetic Care Area. We undertake over 9,000 procedures per year in a vast range of highly specialised and complex specialties over a 24 hour period, 7 days per week.

About the Role

We are looking for an 8 month secondment for one full time and one part time 0.8EFT Grade 2 Registered Nurses to work within our busy Operating Suite , under the guidance of the Nurse Unit Manager or Associate Nurse Unit Manager. They will be responsible for the delivery of expert clinical care in their specific area. The Grade 2 Registered Nurse will be responsible for ensuring his / her own professional development in order to maintain clinical skills and knowledge.

Duties

Provide the full range of nursing services, including, but not limited to:

• Demonstrate sound clinical knowledge in the area of Perioperative Nursing (Perianaesthesia stream)
• Managing the physical and emotional well-being of the patient;
• Administration of medication in accordance with hospital procedures, protocols and policies;
• Assist with medical and diagnostic procedures carried out in the unit;
• Document, observe and report relevant nursing findings within the framework of nursing progress;
• Liaise with patient, patient's family, medical and ancillary staff as required or requested;
• Completion of Handover in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures;
• Effective admission and discharge processes in accordance with Hospital or Unit guidelines.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Recent or current experience in anaesthetic/PACU nursing, minimum of 3 years Peri-Anaesthesia experience
• Highly developed communication & interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated well-developed clinical skills
• Ability to adapt to a changing environment and to work as a part of a well-developed team
• Working towards or Post graduate qualifications in Peri-Anaesthesia while not essential, is highly desirable
