About the Department

St. Vincent's Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The adult mental health service components are: the Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent's Hospital site, and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS).

Community mental health services comprise the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) service , Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment (MST) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services. The adult prevention and recovery care (PARC) service provides a short-term, intensive residential service with a recovery focus. A Consultation & Liaison Psychiatry Service is provided to the health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) and NEVIL Training Cluster are regional services. Statewide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service, the Victorian Transcultural Psychiatry Unit and Dual Diagnosis Education and Training Unit.

The AIS includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service. The Primary Intervention and Care Team (PICT) provide a primary mental health service function for general practitioners, encompassing Hospital Outreach Post Suicide Attempt Engagement (HOPE) program.

About the Role

Applications are sought from appropriately qualified consultant psychiatrists with Fellowship of the RANZCP with the ability to provide clinical leadership in a multi-disciplinary psychiatric service.

Classifications for this position will range from HN15 - HN59

Duties

The Director Postgraduate Medical Education role encompasses the following:

  • Facilitating advertisement of vacancies, assisting in planning interview panels and interviews, reviewing interview questionnaires (scenario based)
  • Shortlisting, preliminary interviews - all candidates who make direct contact, all current registrars (annual)
  • Position review, maintenance of Specialist Training Positions (STP) reports (supported by administrative staff), facilitating contracts (JMS and STP), supporting access to funding streams (PICS STP support)
  • Supervision of specific registrant holders (train in AHPRA module)
  • Allocating rotations according to training requirements, preference and need
  • Negotiating with external services around rotation vacancies or capacity (The Melbourne Clinic, Eastern Health)
  • Pastoral care - registrar welfare especially as relates to work environment, training requirements, interactions with supervisors
  • Coordination of tutorial program and exam preparation program
  • Provide support and training of supervisors

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent
  • Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Registration with AHPRA

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil all St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne Credentialing requirements before commencing in the position.

All appointments are made subject to the candidate providing a current satisfactory National Police Certificate conducted by The Victoria Police.
