About the Mental Health Department

St Vincent's is proud of its International reputation for delivery of Mental Health Services and the use of the 'Strengths Model' and its principles. The Mental Health Service includes a 44 bed adult acute inpatient unit for the cities of Yarra and Boroondara; the Koori state-wide Inpatient Mental Health Service; Continuing Care Teams; a Crisis Assessment Team; ED Mental Health and Psychiatric Triage; Prevention and Recovery Care Service (PARC); Footbridge Community Care Unit; The Primary Intervention Care Team (PICT) which includes Primary Mental Health, Extended Triage and HOPE (Suicide Prevention); Mobile Support Teams; Clarendon Homeless Outreach Psychiatric Service (CHOPS); Victorian Dual Diagnosis Service (VDDS); Body Image Eating Disorders Treatment and Recovery Service (BETRS) and NEXUS (Concurrent Mental Illness and Substance Use Advisory Service); Consultation & Liaison Service and Victorian Transcultural Mental Health (VTMH) and NEVIL Training Cluster.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Team Manager, and in collaboration with the Consumer Reference Committee and the Service as a whole, the Consumer Consultant utilises co-production principles to enable consumer perspectives to be included in service planning, delivery and implementation, assist in the improvement of the service's responsiveness to consumer needs and to communicate the broad views of consumers to the mental health service and other relevant services.

The classification range for this position is Consumer Consultant Level 2 YD6 - YD9 ($63,627 - $67,501 per annum prorata).

Duties

  • Work within the recovery orientated practice using Strengths Model of Care promoting co-production and consumer engagement.
  • Promote and support a consumer network locally to ascertain current issues facing consumers in the delivery of mental health services. Working together with the local Mental Health Community Support Services (MHCSS) and the Consumer Reference Committee.
  • In conjunction with staff, provide advice (support) to consumers about dealing with mental illness and provide information about the services available at St.Vincent's Mental Health and about other sources of support and information such as consumer organisations.
  • Advocate so that the perspectives on mental illness of people from other cultures and diverse backgrounds are included and respected.
  • Maintain a collaborative working relationship with the Carer Consultant.
