About the Department

The Department of Anatomical Pathology is a busy tertiary referral centre which caters for all adult subspecialty Anatomical Pathology areas apart from specialised gynaecological oncology. There is access to ophthalmic pathology and additional NGS reporting as an adjunct to diagnostic testing.

About the Role

Responsible to the Director of Anatomical Pathology for Diagnostic histopathology and cytopathology service within the department, including sub-specialty areas as required.

Involvement in subspecialty reporting and clinicopathological meetings for the department at the direction of the Director of Anatomical Pathology (see selection criteria & position duties).

Classifications for this position will range from Senior Specialist Year 1 - Year 9 HM33 - HM41.

Duties

  • Provision of relevant and timely frozen section service and reporting of "general" histopathology and cytopathology cases.
  • Participation in relevant QA and QC activities as determined by Departmental policy.
  • Assist Director with client liaison and support as required
  • Participate equitably in the Anatomical Pathologists' on call roster as required.
  • Participation in sub-specialty reporting as determined by the Director
  • Co-ordination of, and attendance at, clinicopathological meetings in conjunction with the clinical departments (and any other relevant meetings as required by the Director of Anatomical Pathology).
  • Technological Advancement - Assist the Director, as required, with the introduction of new techniques to improve the diagnostic and prognostic accuracy in cases.
  • Teaching, education and research: Appropriately assist as directed in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching, Continuing Medical Education, and Clinical and/or laboratory research

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • MB,BS or equivalent
  • FRCPA in Anatomical Pathology or equivalent recognised specialist qualification
  • Registration with AHPRA
  • Demonstrable experience in one or more subspecialty reporting areas, in particular neuropathology, gastrointestinal pathology, sarcoma pathology, medical renal pathology, molecular pathology and/or ocular pathology.
  • Willingness to upskill in other subspecialty reporting areas as required, in particular sarcoma pathology, ocular pathology or renal pathology
  • Experience at the consultant level in a large tertiary public pathology setting
