The Role

As Support Worker you will be responsible for delivering high quality case management and support to residents of the Mackay Drug and Alcohol Residential Recovery Services (DARRS) program.

DARRS offers a structured program designed to help residents recover from the effects of addiction and address issues and contributing factors related to their addiction. The goal of the DARRS program is to help individuals develop practical strategies to live a life free of drugs and alcohol dependency.

This position is a fixed term contract ending 30 June 2022, with the possibility of extension depending on funding.

This position requires staff to work in compliance with the Human Services Quality Framework and the National Quality Framework for Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services. Staff are also required to adhere to the Society’s Community Services Policy Framework and comply with all SVdP policies and procedures.

*Please be advised that these positions are shift work and therefore you will be required to work some weekends.

To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant Tertiary or TAFE Qualification or equivalent in Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) work or relevant discipline
  • Experience working in an evidence based AOD treatment setting
  • Current knowledge of the issues and the treatment of clients with alcohol and drug issues with a focus on evidence based AOD models
  • A COVID-19 vaccination certificate is required in accordance with the Queensland Government Workers in a Healthcare Setting (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements) Directive
  • Proficient in MS Office suite and web-based applications
  • Well-developed written and verbal communications skills, including interpersonal skills
  • Ability to liaise and negotiate with a diverse range of people and demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Dedication to, and engagement in, ongoing professional development
  • Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to take appropriate directions and to work as both a member of a team and independently with limited supervision
  • Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to learn
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain appropriate client confidentiality at all times
  • Demonstrate genuine respect, assertiveness and compassion for all people regardless of their situation
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
  • Understanding of risk management principles including current WHS legislation and regulations
