The Role:

VincentCare Victoria is seeking an appropriately-qualified and experienced person to take on the position of Initial Assessment and Planning (IAP) Worker. The successful candidate will have employment experience and qualifications to work from a client centred approach with homeless, and/or marginalised adults to provide assessment, information, referral and brief support to those seeking housing and/or support assistance. The successful candidate will ideally have previous Initial Assessment and Planning experience or similar previous employment in the provision of assessments and referrals with complex and vulnerable groups.

The IAP Worker will work within a multi-faceted team based at the new Ozanam House redevelopment featuring a Homelessness Recovery Centre, crisis, short-term/extended-stay and long-term housing. The position works within the Initial Assessment and Planning Team (IAP) in the Homelessness Resource Centre, which functions as an Access Point for entry into the Homelessness Service System. The position is primarily responsible for conducting assessments with clients to identify existing or potential risks, support needs and personal aspirations and to make appropriate referrals as needed. The role also provides information on topics such as housing and support options, as well as providing information on and referrals to relevant services as identified by the client. The position may also require conducting an intake and assessment function for the Ozanam House crisis accommodation and extended stay where required.

Selection Criteria:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (For example Bachelor Degree) (required).
  • Further qualifications in another discipline or specialist area (For example Graduate Diploma) (desired)
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working the range of needs and issues affecting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in providing high level assessments and support response to people experiencing homelessness.
  • Previous experience in an IAP or like-role will (desired)
  • Experience in liaising with other community service organisations for the development of on-going relationships and referral protocols beneficial to client support.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, which drives persistence and an unconditional positive regard.
  • An empowering approach, demonstrating flexibility and initiative, in working with homeless individuals.
  • Can demonstrate highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Evidenced administrative accuracy and detail, including timely data entry.

The incumbent for this position must have and maintain a current Victorian Working with Children Check or equivalent.
