Project Manager - Solomon Islands

SurfAid

About SurfAid

SurfAid Australia is a nonprofit organisation working towards healthy and resilient communities in remote areas connected to us through surfing.

The Role

We are supporting the cervical screening project in Solomon Islands and are keen to expand our support to other thematic areas.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, resilient, community orientated and driven Project Manager to manage the implementation and successful delivery of the behavioural change aspect of the cervical screening project in Solomon Islands. This project aims to reduce deaths from cervical cancer. SurfAid focuses on increasing health-seeking behaviour, specifically cervical cancer screening, through creative media production and training of peer educators. SurfAid works in collaboration with Family Planning New South Wales, Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association (SIPPA) and the Solomon Islands Ministry of Health and Medical Services. The Project Manager will start to build new community development projects, with our current or new partners, to address community needs.

The Person

  • You are passionate about capacity building, community development, sexual reproductive health rights and prevention of gender-based violence.
  • You have vast experience of working in Solomon Islands. It would be great if you have experience in community health issues.
  • You are an experienced and independent manager who loves to work in a team, and is not afraid to try new things.
  • You have a track record in delivering good results for rural communities and you are pragmatic.
  • You are used to dealing with issues and challenges and thrive from making things work.
  • You communicate easily with community members and government partners, both in Pidgin and English.

The job:

  • Deliver a project that saves the lives of women.
  • Support our partners and strengthen their capacities where needed.
  • Deliver what is relevant, what fits and what makes sense – rather than copy and paste previous experiences
  • Report effectively, on time, for different stakeholders, both in Pidgin and English
  • Analyse monitoring and evaluation data from the field and contribute to new projects
  • Track budget spending and support the preparation of financial reports
  • Keep staff and assets safe and sound
  • Represent SurfAid

You will be based in Sydney, with frequent travel to Solomon Islands once travel restrictions are lifted.
