The Role:

The Support Worker is a vital role responsible for providing essential support to clients of Vinnies Homelessness and Housing Services, including supporting clients at the site location and assisting in the entry and assessment of new clients at the site, and in the daily running of the site.

Your responsibilities:

  • Provide a variety of support to clients and work in cooperation with the case management division.
  • Maintain daily records/client notes and assist in all aspects of providing accommodation services for clients to an established quality standard.
  • Ensure that client support is consistent with the Client Service Delivery Model - demonstrating support consistent with trauma-informed care practices - and that this support is provided with a respectful, non-judgmental and inclusive attitude, upholding and respecting the rights of clients at all times.
  • Assist and/or supervise a variety of client activities such as groups and programs.
  • Ensure that the established accommodation standards are adhered to including i.e room inspections and meal supervision.
  • Managing the flow of clients and visitors in the building in a safe and responsible manner as set out in the service procedure.

This role will report to the Manager of Homelessness and Housing.

To be successful, you will need:

  • TAFE Certificate IV/currently undertaking tertiary study, in welfare/community services related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience of issues relating to homelessness in particular domestic violence/family breakdown.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and act appropriately in crisis and emergency situations.
  • Ability to cover a range of rostered shifts over a 24/7 period based on operational requirements.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills & ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • St Vincent de Paul (NSW) has a COVID- 19 vaccination policy that has identified this role as requiring a full COVID-19 vaccination. Medical exemptions with the NSW government contraindication form will be considered, subject to a satisfactory risk assessment
  • Current first-aid certificate
