  • SCHCADS Award - Level 4, hourly rates range from $36.62 - $39.52 depending on qualifications and experience

The Role

The Migrant Settlement Worker will contribute to the implementation of the signed agreement for services under the Settlement Engagement and Transitions support Program in the Coffs Harbour LGA. The program equips humanitarian entrants and other vulnerable migrants in their first 5 years in Australia with the knowledge and skills to identify, understand and take action to address their settlement needs. There is a focus on social participation, economic well-being, independence, personal well-being and community connectedness.

The Migrant Settlement Worker's responsibilities include:

  • undertaking case work which includes identifying individual client needs and goals and based on these be able to provide tailored support, or targeted group sessions that align with the nine priority areas identified in the National Settlement Framework.

In addition:

One position on offer will focus on:

  • Maintaining strong rapport with key community leaders to take on leadership roles and support relevant ethnic communities to access community resources and facilities to support their capacity to self-organise
  • Providing training, leadership skills and mentoring to community leaders
  • Community consultations with a view to assisting communities to establish groups and/or informal associations

Second position on offer will focus on:

  • Matching an individual's job readiness activities to employer needs
  • Engaging with employers to market the value proposition of employing former refugees, place individuals within the employer's organisations and support employers in workplace integration post placement
  • Addressing and supporting those wanting to start their own business.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or substantial experience in related field
  • Demonstrated high level program management skills
  • Experience working with culturally diverse and/or vulnerable clients,
  • Demonstrated capacity to plan and deliver Community Capacity Building activities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain functional relationships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/activities within prescribed budget.
  • Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills
  • Current Australian Driver's License with the willingness to undertake work related travel.
